I read Lone Eagle by Danielle Steel for at least 90 minutes.
Joe and Kate went to city hall and got married. Joe decided to tell Kate about Andy's visit and why he had ended it with her. Kate was appalled and assured Joe that it was all a lie. She told him that it nearly killed her when she lost him but she had never considered taking her own life.
Joe was spending more and more time on the road. He would spend weeks in California and Hong Kong and it is taking a toll on Kate and their marriage. She tells Joe how lonely she feels. He says that he understands but he has to be away for his business. By the time they were married a year, Joe was spending more time away than at home.
Joe decided that he spent so much time in California that he decided to buy a house. They moved in in September.
Kate was complaining of spending more and more time alone so Joe set aside all his work to spend the holidays with his family. It was just after the new year when Kate was taking down the tree that she fainted. Joe was very worried and insist that she see a doctor. Kate told him not to worry that she wasn't sick, she was pregnant. Joe was angrier than she had ever seen him. He insisted that she have an abortion which she refused to do. She said that she was going to have the baby even if it cost her her marriage. Joe left the next morning for a four week trip to Europe without even saying goodbye. Joe returned from his trip and asked Kate how she was feeling. She told him she did not get the abortion. He said that he knew. He didn't understand why she wanted the baby but he had accepted it.
Andy had remarried and had a new baby. He called to cancel his visit with Reed because he couldn't pick him up. Kate offered to drive him to Greenwich. Kate dropped Reed off and headed out about a quarter till 8. At midnight, Kate still hadn't made it home. There was a sitter with Stephanie.
Andy went looking for Kate and found her at the hospital. She had been hit by a drunk driver and had lost her babies. She was now fighting for her life and Joe was nowhere to be found.
