EDU 344 PRABE 1

October 9, 2011, I read Lone Eagle by Danielle Steel for more than 90 minutes.
The story starts on a December day almost exactly 34 years after Kate and Joe met. Kate is sitting around thinking about her husband (Joe) when the phone rings; she thinks it is Joe. He is a test pilot and is away in California. It is not Joe, it is his assistant. He has called to tell Kate that there has been an accident and Joe's plane exploded over Albuquerque and he is dead. Kate is devastated by her husbands death. She sits and thinks of him and remembers the day they met.
Go back 34 years. Kate Jamison and Joe Allbright are at the same debutante's ball. Kate is there with her parents, Clark and Elizabeth Jamison. Clark adopted Kate after he married her mother a year after Kate's father had committed suicide after the stock market crash. Neither Clark's nor Elizabeth's finances were affected in the crash so, Kate lived a comfortable life. Joe came to the party with his good friend and partner Charles Lindbergh.
Kate and Joe bumped into each other at the buffet table and sat and talked for two hours. Joe learned that Kate was waiting to be accepted to Radcliffe and that she was from a wealthy family and that she was only 17 years old. Kate learned that Joe was a pilot, that he had been raised by cousins and had an awful childhood, and that he was 29 years old. Joe and Kate had a wonderful time getting to know each other and Joe had promised to take Kate flying if her parents would allow it. Kate introduced Joe to her father. Clark was a big fan of Joes and told him he was more famous than he thought. Joe told Clark of the offer to fly them and they all said their good byes as Joe has to leave for California for work.
Eight months later, Kate and her family are spending their summer at the Cape. Kate has thought about Joe constantly but he has never called. At a campfire on the beach, Joe and Kate run into each other and it's just as if they have been friends forever. They catch up with each other on what they have been doing and decide to take a walk on the beach. They are gone for quite a while enjoying each others company. Each has feelings for the other but neither will admit it. Joe has thought of Kate just as often as he has him.
Kate is going to be off to school and Joe will be back in California. Joe asks Kate to write and she says she will. She thinks Joe just wants to be friends.
